The idea of the tank as an armored fighting vehicle originated during World War I. It was primarily developed by British military officials, notably Lieutenant Colonel Ernest Swinton and Sir Albert Gerald Stern, who sought a solution to the stalemate of trench warfare. The first tanks were designed to traverse difficult terrain and provide mobile firepower, leading to their first use in battle in 1916 at the Battle of the Somme.

Britain, and they made the first design of it type.
