The gas cap message can come up on the dash when there is a large vapor leak from the fuel tank. You need to check all of the vacuum lines going from the engine to the tank.
I believe that it is, I checked a couple of suppliers to double check, and all they list is an interference engine. Looks like you'll be pulling the head and replacing valves if the belt went
My check engine light came on because the terminals were not connected tightly. no. quite the contrary. if you have a "check engine" light on, disconnecting, or in this case replacing the battery will turn it off. you have a different problem.
The easiest way is to simply unbolt the battery cable for a couple of minutes. However, if you haven't fixed the problem that set the check engine light it will simply come back on again.
I had all sensors replaced in my 03 Trailblazer and the check engine light stiil comes on. Why?
A failed catalytic converter is one of hundreds of parts that can cause the check engine light to be on.
Replacing the water pump will not cause the check engine light to come on. Either it is a coincidence or you have accidentally disconnected a wire or damaged a sensor somehow.
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
After replacing the EGR valve, use the diagnostic tool and erase codes then read the codes again. I had the same problem on my 97 geo metro. After replacing the egr valve, the check engine light stayed on. After a while it was suppose to clear itself but it didn't. So I went to autozone borrowed their diagnostic tool, erased the codes and then my car passed and the check engine light went off.

you disconnect the battery for a couple minutes.
Either pull the engine or the transmission. Before going to the trouble, check to see if replacing the seal will work out. Open the oil cap with the engine running. Place your hand over the hole and see if there is pressure (called blowby). If pressure is building inside the engine it will press on the oil seal and cause it to fail. Replacing an oil seal in an engine that has blowby is useless since it will fail again.
Basically it means that the bulb needs replacing.
