The Nissan 350Z may consume oil due to several factors, including the design of its VQ35DE engine, which can be prone to oil consumption as it ages. Issues such as worn piston rings, valve seals, or PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system malfunctions can exacerbate oil consumption. Additionally, driving habits and maintenance practices, such as infrequent oil changes or using the wrong oil viscosity, can impact oil usage. Regular checks and maintenance can help mitigate excessive oil consumption in these vehicles.
The type of oil you use depends of the mileage of your vehicle, and it also depends on where you live in the country, because of weather conditions.
what is the use of oil?
If your having oil burn-off its most likely because the motor is worn out and the piston rings are allowing oil to get past into the cylinder. If you have overheated the motor it could be a cracked block or head. Some Chevy 350s, like the one in my impala, the factory head was too thin and would crack about 120k miles. Basically if your oil is getting in the cylinder there is major internal engine work that needs to be done.
I advise taking the vehicle to a shop, replacing that alternator on XG300/350s is a pretty intensive proccess.
