The master cylinder for the brakes is probably out or going out..the piston inside the master cylinder is letting the fluid bypass it. OR You have air trapped in the brake lines and must bleed the brake lines. When you step on the pedal, the air does not compress so the pedal goes to the floor. You must get all the air out of all the lines including the master cylinder for the brake system to work correctly. There won't be any fluid leaks with either of these scenarios....... ........only if you have a leaking brake caliper piston or with a drum brake cylinder, where the seals are shot, and you can see the fluid running down on the tires Don't drive it until you find the problem.

Why does 89 Honda Civic Brakes go to the floor in the summer and is normal in the winter?

The brake fluid will be thinner in the summer heat. Check the wheel and master cylinders for any leaks. The leak will let the pedal go to the floor.

Why does your brakes go to the floor before it stops on a 83 eldorado?

(1)there is a leak in the system, (2)fluid reservoir is low, (3)air in the lines.

Trouble shooting brakes why would the brake pedal go all the way to the floor of a 1995 buick lasabre?

fluid leak, empty fluid, bad master cylinder. nothing else.

Will your brakes go to the floor if wheel bearings are bad?

No

What causes brake to go down to floor if brakes have been replaced?

Air in the brake system- Brake system needs to be bleed and fluid needs to be added while you are doing that.

What would cause brakes on a 39 mercury tracer to go to the floor it has fairly new pads and fluid?

most likely is air in the system so you need to bleed brakes , or you have a component leaking fluid. inspect all calipers and wheel cylinders for fluid leaks. it might be a master cylinder leak / malfunction also. but air is most likely.

Why would a 1996 Chev truck brakes go most of the way to the floor after new master cylinder bleed the brakes. Worked on the brakes themselves but still brakes go almost to the floor.?

You either got the wrong master cylinder or you haven't actually bled all the air out of the system.

Why does brake pedal go to the floor?

Normally this is caused by a Master Cylinder that has failed. Replace the Master Cylinder. Normally this is caused by the loss of fluid in the brake system. The fluid reservoir needs to be checked first. It possibly may be caused by a bad master cylinder but the most common cause is loss of brake fluid.

1997f-350 brake pedal goes to floor?

ouch, are brakes adjusted correctly/ sit in vehical and pump pedal to get a full pedal, then hold pedal to see if it bleeds off and goes to floor,if it stays, replace shoes and pads if it goes to floor, there is a fluid leak somewhere is there brake fluid in the resevoir/ are there any brake fluid leaks ,check backside of wheels there is a brake fluid pump, on the chassis rail about level with the front of the front door on the left side.if this pump is bad your pedal will go to the floor

Where does the clutch fluid go in a suzuki intruder?

On The Floor.

Why would the brakes on a 1989 olds cutlass ciera go straight to the floor no leaks found brakes replaced 100 miles ago?

Short answer, no they shouldn't. If you are certain there are NO leaks, and I assume you mean you replaced the pads on the brakes 100 miles ago, then you need to further examine the brake system. Strictly speaking from a fluid mechanics/physics problem a closed system that contains fluid and is under pressure will not spontaneously lose pressure without another outside force, ie leaking or expanding brake tubing or compressible fluid. The second option is HIGHLY unlikely, and the third does not happen. Go through and start from the master cylinder and check for any leaks again sometimes the smallest one can cause a loss of pressure. if it still leaks, then I would say you need to bleed you system, do some minor adjustments and bleed your brakes and this should take care of the problem. hope this helps There is another way the pedal will go to the floor. (I have had this problem, and there was no leak.) If your master cylinder is messed up, it can let the pedal go to the floor. When you press on the pedal, the master cylinder increases the fluid pressure in the break lines. However, if it is not working properly, it can cause the pedal to go to the floor, by not producing the pressure. You can also have a problem with the vacuum booster. I am, however, unsure how to test them.
