Because it's broken.
Too fast or slow of rpm for gear your trying to switch into A bad or going bad shift synchronizer
it cannnot be done fast
Do you have the 5 speed manual version or the automatic? If it is the manual version then its just because you are letting out of the clutch too fast
Overdrive is the normally allowed position in a Ford Explorer automatic transmission , once the vehicle speed is fast enough ( my Ford Explorer is 50 MPH ) the automatic transmission will automatically shift into overdrive
if an automatic, then let it shift normally when accelerating. the number of shifts will tell you. you must make sure that you keep a constant accelloration. It dose not have to fast accel. you can check the web for the vehicle information. call the dealer and ask. check with the parts store, or check with your local transmission shop. The owners manual if you have it has the information in it. hope it helps. duboff
Consistent ET's, no missed shifts, no human error, no shifting, no clutch replacements & can be made just as fast.
