Anyway the light usually comes on when the alternator is no longer charging the battery while driving, most likely it means that either the battery has low voltage or your alternator is becoming a little faulty.

If it is undercharging the battery yes, but if it is overcharging the battery no in most instances. If it fails completely the light will come on.
