There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

I just changed the timing belt (not chain) for the 96 Lexus es300 last week. 94-96 Lexus es300 are interchange part.
I have a 2001 es and it is in the back between the engine and firewall, down low and you can get to it from the drivers side (not easy to get out).
