That knocking sound could be any number of mechanical and non-mechanical noises. It is most likely in a vehicle that new, the noise you are hearing is not mechanical at all. Its called fuel knock, or more commonly known as gas ping. That noise is actually two different flame fronts in the cylinders hitting each other. It occurs when your spark plug is lighting the air fuel mixture in the cylinder at the top, but heat is actually lighting the mixture at the bottom. When the flames hit each other, you get a metallic ping noise. Now picture all 8 cylinders at 2,000 rpm, having this problem. It can make a really hell of a racket.
First thing you should do is change your gas. I'd use a different gas station, and start buying the next higher octane level. So if you have been using regular (89 octane), go one step up to mid-grade (91 octane). The higher the octane, the harder the gas is to burn (ever so slightly). That will make it harder for heat to set of the mixture in your cylinders.
If that still doesn't work, take your vehicle to the garage, and ask for a carbon clean out. Picture an I.V. for a person at a hospital. They will do the same thing for your car, and they will drip a chemical into your engine that burns a lot hotter than gas does. This will hopefully burn off all the excess carbon that might have built up in your cylinders.
GOOD LUCK!

The phrase "put your foot down" likely originated from the action of stepping firmly on a car's accelerator pedal in order to increase speed or assert control. It has since evolved to mean taking a firm stand or making a decisive decision in various situations.

i don't know if it helps, but my '99 legacy outback was making a knocking sound. turned out that the oring on the brake caliper pin had worn out, and the pin was kind of knocking around.
There could be loosened internal mounts (connecting rods, pistons, pins, crankshafts or other related parts) in the compressor causing the banging or knocking noise. A simple call to a technician should resolve the issue.

IT is your CV Joints which is making this noise.
