On a 1997 Ford Thunderbird : The odometer is in the middle of the speedometer
It is against Federal and State law to tamper with the odometer on any vehicle.
The speedometer and odometer are electrically operated. There is no mechanical connection to the drivetrain. If there is no power, they don't work.

You can swap a 1997 Mustang V6 into a 1968 Mustang. You will need to make several modifications to the 1968 Mustang.
The odometer is electric, no cable.
There is not an odometer cable. The odometer is driven by the speedometer. If the odometer is not working then you will have to replace the speedometer head.
To fix a non-working odometer on a 1996 Mustang, first, check the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located on the transmission, as it may be faulty or disconnected. If the VSS is functioning properly, inspect the instrument cluster for any loose connections, damaged wiring, or burnt-out bulbs. If those components are intact, the issue may lie within the odometer gears, which can wear out over time and may need replacement. In some cases, consulting a professional mechanic might be necessary for a more in-depth diagnosis and repair.
Most likely it is the vehicle speed sensor which is located on your tranny!
