When the coolant fails to pump round the radiator system the car internal heater doesn't work. Driving without coolant in the system will result in the engine overheating and seizing.

this could also be the heater core, it could be leaking and you would see that your radiator is low as well,, if still blowing but never gets hot or changes temps... jsut dealt with this issue as well. If the heater blower works sometimes and other times it doesnt,, this would show that the core needs to be refilled with antifreeze from radiator and check levels if low very well could be it.
