it coulld have a blown fuse wich operates the instrument cluster
A wire going to the battery broke off, when it was reconnected the gauges and lights on the gauges start working again, however the speedometer and the tachometer did not operate.
That can only be done by a service tech, the car is so new that it will not reset even if you disconnect the battery**the above is incorrect. To reset the service light, turn ignition switch to ON position with engine off. Observe speedometer display and tachometer multifunction display. When standard display appears press up or down arrow on the multifunction steering wheel until the FSS service indicator with one or two wrenches appears in speedometer display and service deadline appears in tachometer display. Now, press the reset button between the speedometer and the tachometer for about 4 seconds or until the tachometer display shows "Do you want to reset service interval? Confirm by using the reset button" To confirm hold down the reset button again until a signal is heard. the service indicator will display the reset interval. Reset is complete.
Loose wiring behind the dash.. Pull the cluster and check the wiring or check with the dealer they know about this problem and they may have issued a recall. Hope this helps
I have a Motorcraft ( BXT65 - 650 ) Fords top of the line battery for the 1998 Ford Explorer
Motorcraft BXT - 65 - 650 is Fords " top of the line " battery for a 1992 Explorer
That would be a ( 12 volt battery ) in the engine compartment of a 1998 Ford Explorer
Battery could low. Check it and Replace the battery I had this problem for nearly a year (ever since I had bought the car used). Ultimately, having the fuel pump replaced has made my car start up just wonderfully on cold mornings and on hot days.
This often refers to a dashboard instrument panel that houses 4 large gauges. Usually two of the gauges will be Speedometer and Tachometer. The other two may some combination of Engine oil pressure, Engine Temperature, Intake vacuum, Alternator/Battery voltage, Fuel pressure, Clock, etc.
The belt turning the alternator which is recharging the battery.
The original battery in a 1999 Ford Explorer for all available engines is Motorcraft part # BXT - 65 - 650
It should , my 1995 Explorer XLT does
Your battery is not charging due to a problem with the battery cables or a bad alternator.
