Well i would start off my making sure that i am getting fuel. then if you have that check your coil packs to see it they have a good connection. then if that doesn't work check with your local mechanic or dealer ship. Check all of your grounds!
I was told it could be bad fuel pump.

Check your coolant. Is it thick and gunky?
Do you have automatic locking hubs on the front axles?
NO. In the late month of 1999 chevy completely REDESIGNED EVERYTHING on the chevy trucks and nothing over the year of late 1999 will interchange with anything under the year of 1999. It wont fit.
You are missing fuel or spark.
Bad temperature sending unit? Bad gauge?
Bad transmission? Bent shift linkage?
Something is wrong with your 2000 Chevy Venture. Better information get's better answers.
if it is cranking but wont start check for spark, fuel, air and compression.
