The antifreeze level in the overflow tank can drop due to several reasons, including coolant leaks in the system, evaporation over time, or a malfunctioning radiator cap that allows coolant to escape. Additionally, if the engine is overheating, it can cause the coolant to expand and push some out of the overflow. Regularly checking and maintaining the coolant level is essential to prevent engine overheating and damage.
Just check your overflow container after a few days, if there is any air in the system it should work it's way out and just bubble in the overflow tank. If you see the tank level drop and you don't have any leaks, then there was some air. It is not a major concern.
A quick way would be to drop into a plumbing supply store. They often have tubs on display with the overflow drain hooked up. You will be able to see where the overflow water goes down the drain. Des Perado
It would drop to the lower level in a little over one hour.
It came from the factory with 50 % antifreeze / 50 % water mixture ( do not exceed 60 % antifreeze or drop below 40 % antifreeze - engine damage may occur )
To have a 50 / 50 mixture of antifreeze and preferably distilled water you would need ( 7.5 liters / 7.9 quarts ) of antifreeze because according to the Owner Guide the cooling system capacity is 15.0 liters / 15.8 quarts Ford shows not to exceed 60 % antifreeze and not to drop below 40 % antifreeze in the cooling system
It means it has hit the highest level it will reach. After it reaches the crest, the water level starts to drop. For those in flood areas, the height of the crest is critical. Lower is always better!
According to Ford a 50 / 50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water is required year round because the antifreeze also provides corrosion protection ( do not drop below 40 % antifreeze or exceed 60 % antifreeze ) Also , the corrosion protection additives in the antifreeze do " wear out "
check the antifreeze
You have a blown head gasket i would not drive it until it has been fixed
They come from the factory with a 50 / 50 mix of anti-freeze and preferably distilled water . Do not exceed 60 % antifreeze or drop below 40 % antifreeze
No, unless you asked for an overflow pipe. Just set your pump to waste and drop the level to where you want it.
