It only does it when you accelerate and sometimes when at a traffic light, the faster you accelerate the faster the clicking sound. It was doing it very lightly for about a month, then this week it got worse, but has not progressed any further throughout the week. The car runs fine, and does not slip or anything. Once you get up to speed, the car sounds great. I put it in neutral and revved the engine at a traffic light and everything sounded good. It is a 96 Mystique LS with 141k miles on it. At first the sound was like a record player with a warped disk, but now it is sort of like a card in a bicycle wheal but slower. The sound seems to be coming from the right side of the car, and the transmission is on the left. How much would this be to repair, and what do you think the problem is? I know very little about how cars work.
Without being able to hear it, my first thought is a belt on the front of the motor is going bad and a strip or small piece has come loose and is flapping as it goes around. A bad or stuck fuel injector can make a clicking noise also. Visually look at the belts with the motor not running and put a bottle of injector cleaner in. Could be something else entirely.
