your Alternator

What would be the cause on an 1989 Chev Corsica 28litre will jump start fine and idle when turn on lights the engine will die?

Sounds like a bad alternator. The alternator runs the accessories as well as the charging of the battery, whereas the battery is resposible for start up. If you had to charge your battery that also means that alternator wasn't doing it's job and needs to be replaced. Its not a big deal to swap it out.

What would cause battery light to stay on in a 1998 ford taurus. I have had the alternator checked and was told it was good.I have replaced the battery and still battery light stays on?

Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt. If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery. The alternator should have 2 connections.

Your speakers in your car short out when you accelerate Could that Be your alternator or battery?

the batteries only serve to start the car and the alternator. I'm not sure if it would be your alternator but it's not the battery.

Just replaced alternator on your Mazda tribute and the battery light is coming on slightly what would cause this?

Loose alternator drive belt or loose or corroded battery cables. The battery itself may also be bad.

Why would the alternator in your 1994 Mitsubishi galant not be charging the battery when it is not defective?

usualy if the alternator is not defective then its the battery. you should start by cleaning the battery post. then you could check the terminal wire that runs from the battery post to the alternator. if thats not it you should check the ground on the alternator.

Why would the amp light be on after changing the alternator battery and solenoid on a 1990 Ford Tempo?

I have the exact same pproblem with a 1988 tempo, replaced the alternator and battery, still the alternator only reads 5 volts when running. Can't figure it out, do you know of any websites that would have a diagram of the alternator for a tempo?

Why does check engine light come on and battery gauge go down in 1993 town and country minivan but problem goes away after a jump start?

The battery is basicly used just to start your vehicle, the alternator is what generates your power once the vehicle is running. Which indicates you need a new battery, not an alternator. That is why you problem goes away after a jump start(boost). If it was the alternator the problem would not go away and your vehicle would have no lights and stall with no start. Either your battery is bad or the alternator is not charging.

Why would your car not hold a charge after a jump?

I would assume the battery is completely dead and needs to be replaced, or you jumped it wrong.or its the alternator i think

Why won't my car start I just had the battery checked and had a new alternator installed It started twice after having the alternator replaced but it will not start now?

If the engine doesn't turn over at all there are a few things that are possible. Start with the battery ground cable and make sure it is making a good ground and is not broken. Also check the positive cable from the battery to make sure you have a good connection and no breaks in the wire. If these are both good you may need to replace the starter motor. There are brushes inside the starter (yes they can be replaced if you know how to take the starter apart) that will grind down to the point of not making enough contact to start your car. Since you said you had the alternator replaced I'm thinking it probably is the starter because any competent mechanic would have checked the battery cables before replacing the alternator.
