NO! the m50d r1 has a married bellhousing wich is dezigned for the 4.0 ohv and sohc motors even if you have the 4.2 v6 theyre still diffrent
The 5 speed manual in a 4x4 with the 4.0 V6 is the Mazda M50D, if your truck is a 4x2 I am unsure. There are at least a couple of different models of this transmission, so if you are looking for one at a salvage yard be very observant of what is in your truck compared to what you are looking at in the salvage yard. One from a F150 will not work. Look on your door post if it says trans code m yes it is an m50d r1
I believe that is the Mazda M50D-R1 ( transmission code " M " on the information sticker on the end of the drivers door )
For a 1988 Ford Ranger : M5OD-R1 , 5 speed manual transmission ( transmission code " M " ) 2.9 liter V6 engine , rear wheel drive ( 2.8 U.S. quarts of MERCON automatic transmission fluid is used )
I was looking at ( www . the ranger station . com ) no spaces " Tech library " It depends on which 5 speed manual transmission you have in your 1991 Ford Ranger with the 2.9 liter V6 engine The mitsubishi transmissions ( transmission code " D " ) Fm132 - 2 wheel drive and FM146 both take ( 80-90W gear lube ) The Mazda transmission ( transmission code " M " ) M50D-R1 - 2 wheel drive takes ( MERCON automatic transmission fluid )
The first generation Ford Explorers were available either with a four speed automatic transmission or a five speed manual transmission. The manual transmission option was the M50D-R1, and the automatic was the A4LD.
That transmission is a Mazda M50D-R1 - Most important thing you can do to have this transmission last is MAINTAIN PROPER OIL LEVEL - It is a real leaker due to design flaw, but only leaks during operation, so no puddle under the truck - Check yer oil frequently!!
NOPE! haha that's only for 1988-1997 v6 ranger,bII,exploder, and aerostar.(also Mazda-ranger same diff)not sure what goes in 4 banger... do you have a m50dr1??? i need one. sask Canada (Regina) email me if you know of one... funisfoundofftheroad@hotmail.com for 2wd thx
there are 4 different transmissions that were put in these, the 4 or 5 speed mazda, the 5 speed mitsubishi, and the m50d 5 speed with overdrive
it is cheaper to buy a rebuilt transmission than to have one rebuilt
Yes, it is possible to convert an M50D-R1 5-speed transmission to a 4x4 configuration using parts from an M5OD-R1 4x4 transmission. However, this process requires significant modifications, including obtaining a transfer case compatible with the M50D and ensuring proper alignment and mounting. Additionally, you will need to address the drivetrain components, such as the driveshafts and differentials, to ensure compatibility with the 4x4 system. Overall, while it can be done, it is a complex task that may require specialized knowledge and skills.
it probably has what some call a granny gear or a towing gear. it is geared way down to make it easier to take off from a stop when pulling a load. as to can it be changed, porbably not but when you take off just start off in second gear.
it is possible, but your going to have to do some major changes... the manual transmission you have in your ranger is most likely a Mazda M50D-R1. and if your running a 4.0 L engine you can bolt up a A4LD, AOD or C4 trans... but the thing to factor in is, is it really worth it? in order to get a auto to function correctly, your gonna need a computer for a auto, proper hoses to maintain trans pressure. and appropriate linkage to shift. ive changed my ranger from a stick to auto, but its a offroad race truck and is not street legal. the valve body was converted to a manual and doesnt require hoses to shift. it is possible... but is your time money worth it?? You cannot convert transmissions, however, you can replace them. The bolt patterns are not different per transmissions for the same motors. You will probably be able to use the same transfer case on either tranny. You will also need to replace components on the stearing collumn, and run new linkage to the throttle body or carburator. I don't think it would be worth the time, $, or effort to do this on a Ford Ranger.
