NOT changing your fluid and filter will cause problems down the road. Changing the filter is more important than the fluid (be sure you do not just change the fluid). Also, be sure to clean the pan and the magnet well, and COMPLETELY dry it. What's it on? Chances are, it will actually help extend the transmission life greatly if you replace fluid and filter about every 20k-30k miles.

I asked that very same question of my transmission mechanics yesterday! Here is their very firmly stated answer:

* If you know the transmission history, and that the fluid was changed somewhere in the previous 40K miles or so, then yes, drop the pan and change the filter.

* If you do NOT know this fluid change history, then do not do it. The transmission builds up tarnish and the like from normal usage. The detergents in the new fluids will clean those 'contaminates' and is very likely to put the transmission on a path to failure. Other than checking fluid levels, leave it alone I have heard this advice from a good number of professional mechanics over the years.

Does a faulty camshaft mean you may have further engine problems?

Yes, it may mean deeper engine problems. A faulty camshaft could be either the cause of further problems or a symptom of further problems. Or, best case scenario, no further problems at all. Realistically, only a hands-on, eyes-on mechanic is going to be able to tell you if there likely to be deeper problems in your engine.

Why does Jaguar x type say Transmission Fault?

The "Transmission Fault" message on a Jaguar X-Type typically indicates an issue with the vehicle's transmission system. This could be due to low transmission fluid levels, a malfunctioning transmission control module, or internal transmission problems. It's important to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional to identify the specific cause and avoid further damage. Ignoring this warning could lead to more severe transmission issues and costly repairs.

What can be one of the problems when car works only in drive?

Sounds like you have a transmission problem. You might start by checking the fluid level to make sure your transmission fluid level is correct. Otherwise you are going to have to be sure it is shifting into reverse before you can go much further in troubleshooting.

What is the towing capacity of a 2001 Honda Odyssey?

Normally towing should not induce any extra wear on your vehicle, in some cases a transmission cooler is recommended to keep the transmission fluid at an appropriate temperature. However, the Honda Odyssey has many recorded problems with the transmission failing early. Some are fortunate enough to have it fail withing warranty, I have a friend who is on his third transmission in under 120k miles. So I would not recomend towing with your Odyssey. Adding extra weight for your van to tow will shorten the life of your transmission even further on this particular vehicle. A quick search on the problems of the transmission on this vehicle, including a class action lawsuit for certain years that extended the warranty.

Can you downshift while car is in motion with a cvt transmission?

Downshifting is safe, you will only encounter problems in situations where you transmission is overheating. The CVT is much more advanced than other transmissions. The Transmission controller and Engine ECU would work together to ensure that everything is all systems go during accelleration and deceleration. expanding this idea further. there are very sensitive sensors that monitor any type of slippage or problems with the CVT belt. The transmission is a highly pressurized system just to operate, how it runs doesnt really add more stress. The ECU will not allow you to do anything that will harm it.

2002 jaguar x-type 3.0 automatic transmission is slipping does it need fluid or do you have bigger problems?

If your 2002 Jaguar X-Type 3.0's automatic transmission is slipping, it could be a sign of low transmission fluid, which is a common issue. First, check the fluid level and condition; if it's low or dirty, a fluid change or refill might resolve the problem. However, if the fluid is at the correct level and the issue persists, it could indicate more serious internal problems, such as worn clutches or a failing transmission. It's advisable to have a professional diagnose the issue to prevent further damage.
