Disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery for 2 minutes will reset the check engine light, but if the problem that caused it to turn on originally still exists, it will come on again.
You can try unplugging the battery to re set it or using a code reader on it
unplug your battery for 15 minutes and it will go off
try unplugging the battery for a while. that may turn it off IF you fixed the problem that turned it on.
disconnect battery cables and touch them together! I have done this and it worked. I have an 05 2500hd
You must have an engine scanner to do that.
Disconnect the battery. BUT you should have it checked. There's a code stored in memory that is needed to fix the cause of the check engine light being on. If you do the battery thing, don't take it to a service tech and say fix it until the light comes back on.
Repair the problem first. You can try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. If that does not work you will need an OBD2 scan tool.
thats not really a good recomendation to give, unplugging the battery while the engine is running can cause internal damage to the altenator.its easier testing it with a voltage meter and check the alt and batt indiviually without any unplugging if it reads anywhere between 14.2 to 14.9 ur fine.hope this sounds better and safer... one way to check is while the car is started unhook the battery if the car stay started its not the altenator
That REQUIRES an ENGINE SCANNER to do that.
Double check that the battery works, then check if the engine works.
To reset the check engine light on a 1997 Chevy Silverado, you can either disconnect the negative battery cable for about 15 minutes or use an OBD-II scanner to clear the codes. After reconnecting the battery, the light should turn off if the underlying issue has been resolved. If the light remains on, it indicates that there may still be a problem that needs addressing. Always check for any diagnostic trouble codes before resetting to ensure any issues are properly diagnosed.
Need to check the battery conections and the starter wires and starter.
