you more than likely have internal transmission damage(burned clutches,bands,steels...etc), unfortunatley theres no easy way around that problem. Your best bet would be to find a suitable replacement trans or see if you can find someone to rebuild it for a resonable price. Either way it is going to be a pricey situation.

may sound oblique but as most motorcycles have a 1n234.... gearbox system , from nuetral its only one notch either way to engage a gear. if you go up, its second gear and pullaways will be more prone to stutters and stalls (extreme example, try pulling away in top gear)
