No, The Vampire Diaries came out in 1991, Twilight came out in 2005.... To be honest, Vampire Diaries is better. Second person here- No, I too think vampire diaries is much better... Dont hate me for saying that. I also think 'The Vampire Diaries' is much better. The characters are more interesting and the plot is generally better constructed.

Then there is the NIGHT World series, but that is not just vampires it is werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, and vampires. Those are just some. There are many more. Also the HOUSE OF NIGHT series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. For books that aren't about vampires, EMILY THE STRANGE, though not all of them are by the same person. Also, the BLUE IS FOR NIGHTMARES series by Laurie Faria Stolarz. The DEAD GIRL series, by Linda Joy Singleton. Also, the EVERMORE series by Alyson Noel.
