What are the advantages of having fairy tale world in A Midsummer Night's Dream?

Shakespeare wanted to let the audience/readers of the story to imagine what the fairy world looked like. And alot of the characters in a Mid Summer Night's Dream wouldn't exist if it wasn't a fairy world, now, would they?
