Well Generally it was to change hygiene, currently there was not a great deal of knowledge and use of cleanliness, people could guess that bad smells meant something bad (miasmas ). but there wasn't an application of any type of cleanliness so Florence Nightingale went on to change this, She wrote hundreds of books on the subject, and nursed during the Crimean war, thus she was known as the 'lady with the lamp' And also it is important to note that after this, she also set up many hospitals and related facilities that also dealt with educating people of hygiene especially people such as nurses.
