What is the difference between diary and autobiography?

I suppose there is not much difference, however a diary tends to be written to the diary and is only expected to be seen by yourself, therefore it may be more personal and you may be more open about feelings, whereas an autobiography focuses upon summing up your life in detail but not too much, and may be published. although a diary can be published but it would contain more personal details i should imagine.
