When did knights die out?

The anime series of Vampire Knight ended because they ran out of manga to use for more episodes. More manga has come out since then so this could possibly mean another season of Vampire Knight.

Gunpowder made their heavy armour and poor mobility useless in open combat, so lighter ccavalry was adopted rather than fully armoured knights Absolutely true, as regards knights of old, in armour. But in Britain we still have the idea of enobling men & women (Dames) to the realm of knighthood. But no, I don't see the idea of Sir Bob Geldof fighting for the honour of the Sovreign, or Dame Judy Dench for that matter ! ... Just a thought.

The stereotypical knight in shining armor became obsolete upon the introduction of gunpowder. At that point, thick armor was no longer useful, and lighter armored soldiers (think "Musketeers") became more important.

Knights still exist as a rank of honor in places like England, but not as a fighting force.
