Abraham did not want his son to marry a Canaanite and so he sent his servant back to Mesopotamia to the city of Nahor to pick out a wife from Abraham's family. The girl that was chosen (by God's choice) was Rebekah. She was Isaac's cousin, and she was brought back to Canaan to marry Isaac. About 19 years later Rebekah conceived and had twins. Esau and Jacob (Genesis 24:1-66; 25:24-34). These three men, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are the Patriarch's of the Hebrew people.
