Many of them felt that the war was wrong and among these were many who would be forced through conscription to risk their lives to to tickle the fancy of a group of politicians and an arms lobby. This was in fact not a war this was a police action initiated when it became obvious that a corrupt south Vietnamese government bolstered by the US would be thrown out by the communists in a democratic election.
