Why did Catherine pelzer pick david to be her victim?

Catherine Roerva Christen Pelzer suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). David describes his mother as a "wicked witch" on pg 30 in "A Child Called IT", which hit the nail on the head. She exhibits the behavior of the prototypical BPD Witch. The darkness within the borderline Witch is annihilating rage. Her inner experience is the conviction of being evil, and her behavior evokes submission... She is filled with self-hatred and may single out one child as the target of her rage. Unfortionatly for David, He was her target until the State finally intervened and took him away. Then she moved on to his younger brother Richard as documented in his memoir "A Brother's Journey".

The reason David was chosen as the victim was because Catherine had became a pyscho. She began to drink until the sun went down. The only time that she wasn't as bad with the punishments was when Stephen was home. When David left the house on March 5, 1973 and went into foster care, Catherine started to beat on the next oldest; Richard Pelzer( known as Russel in the novel). She didn't have anything better to do with her life so she decided to ruin someone elses. People don't understand why mother's would do this to there children; but they do. David wasn't the only one. There's no other way to answer this question other than to say..... SHE WENT PHYCO! Also, in the book, David's mom said t hat he was the most understanding one to cool her anger off of Russel was not the next oldest.He was the 4th child.The order was Ron,David,stan,Richard A.K.A.Russel then Kevin.Catherine Pelzer had a multiple personalty disorder as well.Then the drinking did not help to much.And her becomeing a psycho is not the only reason.This person wants to know why david was targeted.
