It depends on which route you plan to take. The Pacific Highway north from Sydney has many rest stops and free campsites for travellers and those wishing to stop overnight. Indeed, anywhere throughout NSW offers these facilities. Once you reach the Queensland border, it is quite a different matter. For some reason, Queensland offers no free campsites along the main eastern highway, and potential spots are always signed with a "No overnight camping" warning. If you venture inland, the local councils are far less retentive and much more welcoming, but if you plan to travel along the coast, you would be advised to book in to caravan parks.

They are called cairns: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairn Opinions vary on why people construct them and what they mean, but personally I find it to be a landmark of human presence. People pass by it and add more to it, as a way of saying "I was here." Unique and simple expression that you can leave without harming the environment.
Normally there is a tag on the road side of the camper giving you the specs on the camper - located at the front of the rv ... about 4"x 4" If it is not there then you will have to look up the vin number which is normally stamped on a plate along the road side tongue of the trailer.
