Driving with noisy tappets can be detrimental to your engine's health. The noise often indicates insufficient lubrication or a mechanical issue, which could lead to increased wear or damage over time. While you might be able to drive short distances, it's advisable to address the problem promptly to prevent more serious engine damage. Frequent or long-term driving with this issue is not recommended.
Is it a big problem to have noisy tappets in your engine?
Diesels are normally noisy anyway - are you sure it your valve tappets? If so, they could be out of adjustment. Take it to a shop and have them checked and adjusted.
easy--change them
Noisy tappets on the Rover 75 1800 petrol engine typically indicate a need for adjustment or maintenance rather than a simple reset. These hydraulic tappets can become noisy due to wear, low oil pressure, or dirt buildup. It’s advisable to check the oil level and quality first, and if the noise persists, a more thorough inspection or replacement of the tappets may be necessary. Regular maintenance can help prevent this issue from recurring.
yes you do have to set the tappets
adjust tappets on saxo 1.1 and gaps
Yes, you can get a ticket for excessive noise.
Indefinitely, but you could create more damage to the valve train the longer you wait to repair/adjust the valves.
no unless you change the size of the rods
if your mitsu grandis tappets are noisy, tek tek tek especially on idle change oil and filter and add pro-ma mbl8. mine was noisy and it went away like magic make sure you change filter could also be low pressure to lifters. I still have a black exhaust problem .... will sort it and post blog
it normally means there worn and could do with replacing, however mine have been noisy for 3 years, my partner who's a mechanic never does any thing on my car unless he has to, so when he changes the oil he puts a bottle of STP oil treatment in with the oil. this tends to make it a lot quieter. good luck
Yes, to access the tappets(lifters) you have to remove the cylinder head.
