A salvage vehicle cannot be registered or driven on the road. It must pass inspection from DOT and the Secretary of State and then issued a rebuilt title before being registered.
You can register with a salvage title.
You go to Massachusetts and make the title Massachusetts Salvage then you register it in as New Jersey Clean TItle with History of Salvage.
If you have a title, and it is red, then you can't register it at all. The only thing you can do is sell it to an individual for parts only or to a salvage yard. If the title is blue, then you should be able to register it and it will be a salvage title. If all you have is a certificate of destruction and no title, then its the same as having a red title.
YES
Unfortunatly no there isn't... Illinois has the worst laws around with this, you can thank all of the buy here, pay here lots this state has to offer. A salvage title, depending on the county and city, means the main structure of the vehicle is damaged beyond safe repair. In Chicago I know they will not register that vehicle at all, and else where in the state. However, if you register a salvage title to a "lost title" by using the original owners name you can get away with it if you settle on an agreement they sold you the vehicle with no title in hand. Filing for lost title can take from 6 weeks to 6 years depending on the vehicle. I have a 1966 VW Bus that I filed for in Chicago in 2007 and still have no title...
Yes you can but the title will say salvage. A salvage title in Illinois means it has been stolen or wrecked and has not yet been inspected or otherwise cleared by the state. You cannot drive or as a private party, own a salvage vehicle. If you do own one, you must contact a Illinois Secretary of State Police Vehicle Inspection Station to start the process to obtain a rebuilt title.
As long as it is not a "RED" title, then yes you can. I drive a vehicle in SC with a salvage title. If the title color is red, then you can not re-title it. This is something that they just started doing, and the red title means it is not rebuildable.
is a salvage title?
Yes, if you want to drive it on the road/register it. Might be able to get a salvage title.
Yes, it will just be issued a salvage title to make sure is disclosed upon sale.
Florida is one state where you can change a CD title for a salvage title. Another state where you can change a CD title for a salvage title is Tennessee.
A certified salvage title inspector must inspect repaired vehicles titled as salvage. Inspections ensure the vehicle and its individual parts are not stolen, have proper equipment and are in safe operating condition. (See Wisconsin Administrative Code Trans 149).
