10 degrees advance
You can monitor distributor degrees with a timing light.
The 1997 S10 Blazer has an egr (Exhaust Gas Reclaimer) valve. It also does not have a point distributor, it is electronic.
It depends on how you put the distributor in. If you're asking this question now it probably means that you didn't have the engine at TDC when you took out the old distributor and put in the new one... now you get to track down TDC on the engine (that's when #1 cylinder is at the top of the compression stroke) and find out where the distributor is pointing. Understand that the #1 piston will be at TDC on top of the compression stroke and on top of the exhaust stroke. You need to make sure it's the right TDC. At that point, wherever the distributor is pointing is #1. Unfortunately, not everyone makes sure the distributor is back to factory specs.
If the 454 is complete with accessories such as exhaust manifolds, a/c, power steering, alternator, etc., it should be a pretty straightforward swap. Transfer the motor mounts and distributor from the 350. A new exhaust system will likely be needed.
30 degrees dwell, timing is the second mark above the O mark on the timing tab.
how to repace the distributor on an 98 chevy silverado
Getting spark and fuel? Perhaps TDC is on exhaust stroke Try the distributor 180 degrees off Only change the distributor if the problem happened after having the distributor out, I have also seen rotors put on 180 out in HEI distributors, but I don't think the rotor on your distributor can be installed wrong. The ones I have seen installed wrong had round holes and square pins that fit into corresponding round and square holes so you really had to force it to do it wrong. Pour a little gas into the intake and see if it will start on that, if it does, your problem is fuel related.
get the compression stroke up on the number 1 spark plug and look at the rotor inside the distributor cap to see if it points to the number 1 wire on the cap
The engine will not run.
To set the distributor on a 1990 Chevy Camaro RS 3.1, start by aligning the engine to TDC (top dead center) on the compression stroke for cylinder number one. Remove the distributor cap and ensure the rotor is pointing towards the number one spark plug terminal. Adjust the distributor as necessary to ensure proper timing, typically around 10-12 degrees before TDC. Finally, reassemble the cap, start the engine, and check the timing with a timing light, making further adjustments if needed.
one of two places either on the back of the intake or under the exhaust manifold It is on the rear of the engine behind the distributor.
