hard to say but if it runs rough & this is related you may have a leaking intake manifold or head gasket causing vacuum loss (reason for rough idle) & leaking out the antifreeze - both are expensive to repair
NO.... Not hardly.
you either have a cracked cylinder head that is leaking coolent into the combustion chamber causeing rough idleing and eventualy total engine failure. to check this pull out the oil dipstick and see if the oil is thin or watered down you either have a cracked cylinder head that is leaking coolent into the combustion chamber causeing rough idleing and eventualy total engine failure. to check this pull out the oil dipstick and see if the oil is thin or watered down
A 1994 Ford Escort will experience rough running with the AC on if the compressor is going out or the idle is set too low. The additional load produced by the compressor puts a strain on the engine.
you might have a leaking vaccum hose
is it losing collant? check for oil in coolant or coolant in oil. if so it may have a bad intake or head gasket. if it only idles rough when it gets really hot and the coolant level is okay you probably need a thermostat or possibly a new radiator.
You'll see coolant leaking out of it. If you're still not sure, you can very lightly spray some brake cleaner or ether around the intake manifold with the engine running. If you get a sudden surge in RPMs while doing this, the gasket is compromised.
Grinding, rough steering, fluid leaking from seals.
its most likely headdd gasket,, if compression check shows low compression then most likely,,, also couald be cracked head,, leaking coolant passages in intake manifold introducing coolant to heads,, pull plugs lookoing for coolant on plugs, if you find one or two adjacent with coolant on plugs then, bit the bullet, pull the heads and look for gasket or crack, buck
has coolant level droped on header tank under bonnet if so you have coolant leaking into the combustion chambers (cylinders) there are a number of causes for this head gasket, warped or cracked cylinder head, same goes for the cylinder block
Around 800$ for labour, an engine would cost around 250$-450$ complete plus parts oils and coolant needed. all Australian dollars very rough idea but .
leaking intake gaskets...
Rough idle, loss of power, poor mileage.
