The intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and head must be removed. This is a major repair. On a 26 year old vehicle you might as well do a complete engine rebuild once you remove the head. The vehicle may not be worth the cost of the repair.
To replace the water pump on a 1989 Isuzu Trooper, first disconnect the battery and drain the coolant. Remove the serpentine belt, then unbolt the water pump from the engine block, taking care to remove any old gasket material. Install the new water pump with a new gasket, reassemble the components in reverse order, refill the coolant, and reconnect the battery. Be sure to check for leaks after running the engine.

Yes, the 1989 Isuzu Trooper is equipped with a mechanical clutch system. This means that the clutch operates through a hydraulic or cable mechanism, allowing the driver to engage and disengage the engine from the transmission manually. This type of clutch is common in many vehicles from that era.
