Cubic inches is only one variable in determining horsepower
The 5.0 liter V8 engine in a 1986 Ford Mustang GT was rated at : ( 200 horsepower from the factory )
190 horsepower 240 pound torque
V6 engine - 210 horsepower , V8 engine - 315 horsepower
I'm not sure if the 1986 is the same as the 1987 , but ( on the 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis the 5.0 liter / 302 cubic inch V8 engine is rated at 150 horsepower and the 5.8 liter / 351 cubic inch V8 engine is rated at 180 horsepower according to my Chilton's Auto Repair Manual )
