If the fan is moving and blowing cold air, your cold air intake is working properly.
So long as your car isn't overheating it's a safe bet that the intake is functioning properly. Quite simply your temperature gauge will head straight for the red if the engine isn't getting cold air.

Right-click the Flash part and if it says "Movie not loaded" then it's not working properly.
The year, make and model info would help.

when engine is first started cold it will have a eratic idle till it warms up some this is my experiance
You will feel a miss at idle and the idle speed may be erratic. Try retorquing the intake manifold bolts, working from the center out in the recommended tightening sequence. If that fails, the intake manifold will have to be removed and the intake gaskets replaced
A diagnostic tester can tell you if the camshaft sensor is not working properly. Most Ford dealerships have diagnostic testers.
I have a 1994 ford ranger with a 2.3 4 cylinder and a k&n cold air intake. You can really tell the difference in the take-off and it has a little more power l, so it is a pretty good idea to add one
