They are set on timers.
Maybe it's used more? I don't Know.
They change colors to show you what to do on the street. Green means go and that everything is O.K., Yellow means slow down and warns you that you will have to stop soon, red means stop and that it is not safe to keep going, flashing yellow lights are ment to tell you to slow down and be careful, and red flashing lights are meant to be used as a stop sign were you have to wait for others to pass to be able to get through it's also a warning sign for high traffic.
when i play music in my car the lights dimm i wanted to know if a capacitor would stop that problem
Much thought went into the selection for the colors in Stop, Go, Caution lights, they however weren't for traffic lights, they were for the Railroad and devised by their engineers through a trial and error method, the glare of the sun played a large part in the final selection of colors. The life-saving ingenuity of the Railroad Engineers are responsible for the traffic light selection of colors.
i dont know sorry

You stop ! The blinking red indicates the lights are about to change to green for the traffic.
Linkage broken or disconnected? Vehicle stuck in "Park"? Check to see if stop lights are working - shift interlock and stop lights same circuit - check fuse
how
Signal lights typically use three main colors: red, yellow (or amber), and green. Red indicates stop or danger, yellow signals caution or preparation to stop, and green means go or that it's safe to proceed. Some variations exist for specific applications, such as blue lights for emergency vehicles or specific traffic contexts.
Traffic lights work on a timer, but if you look closely on the road when your stopped at the traffic lights, you should see a rectangle like shape under the car it is called a sensor And when you drive on it, a signal is sent, so the timer knows a car is waiting, if no other cars are going the other way, the timer will change and the light will go green so you can go. I hope this answer helps.
The stop lights on the road slide up or down based on the colors, but still are the same shape & size
