To change to the heater core on a 1996 Tacoma you first need to drain the coolant from the cooling system. Be prepared for a mess and have plenty of towels to soak up any excess leakage. After you have drained the cooling system remove the fasteners, clamps and plates. Give a good upward pull to remove the core. If you are using the same core, clean it thoroughly before reinstalling. Follow the same steps in reverse to install.

Unfortunately, there is no "easy" way to change the heater core. The entire dash board has to come out. then it's easy. Then you have to put the dash back in. Sorry :(
