To decode a vin number you need to know what each section means. the first three characters tell you where the car was made, characters 4 through 8 tells you about the car. It tells you a decription of it. Digit 9 is a check number to detect fake vin numbers. Position 10 tells you the year it was made. The rest of the numbers are your production numbers.
