Check the fuses. If the brake light fuse blows it won't come out of park.

Start with checking the fuses.
put your foot on the brake.... if that doesn't work you have to fix the wiring for the brake/transmission interlock
This is a blown brake fuse check your break fuse and should fix it.

1996-1999 Taurus Sable:Fuse #5 is for the "Brake shift interlock".I *think* that's the one.The brake switch down on the brake pedal is also a factor in getting stuck in park. See "Related Questions" below for more about that too.
temp. fix. I had to use a pen to press the button inside of the gear box (there is a small hole under D) in order to shift out of park.
In the event the Audi A3 is stuck in park:
The neutal safety switch will allow engine to start in park or neutral only. You must fix problem.
If the Park Ave is a year that uses a speedometer cable, check that the drive gear for the cable is working. Check the cable to insure that it is not broken of stuck, then check the speedometer itself. These steps will let you know what is broken so that you can fix it.
