I open the back and change the battery, if that does not work I see if the internal contacts can be cleaned and if they need to be cleaned.
If the cleaned contacts don't work I buy a new one and have it programed for the car.
Toy-grade: Trash it. Hobby-grade: Take back to where you bought it.
