You Freeze it off. Take a can of air spray (not Hair spray) attach the small straw to it, then turn it upside down and spray it directly on to the gum for just a couple of seconds. It will freeze the gum instantly. Then use something like a butter knife and hit the gum with the handle side of the butter knife. The gum should shatter into little pieces and that's it. If it doesn't then freeze it a little longer and smack it again.
I don't agree with the freezing method as you just cant avoid damaging the fabric/carpet in some way if you use a knife.. I tried all sorts of things then found this neat product called GUM-OUT which is a special formula you squirt under the wad of gum.
