It depends where you are. North Fort Myers has it's bad areas. To the east is Lehigh Acres which many consider part of Fort Myers. It's close enough that crime from there does flow into eastern Fort Myers. However, Downtown and South Fort Myers are extremely nice areas that are in the middle of some strong development. They are rebuilding the downtown into a type of weird Miami-Havana hybrid, but still keeping it small. South Fort Myers, especially near Sanibel Beach and Fort Myers Beach is being flooded with developments, which have cleaned up the area. So Fort Myers is not quite a ghetto, but there are some slums.
