To replace the thermostat in a 1997 Camaro Z28, first ensure the engine is cool, then disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the coolant from the radiator, and remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Unscrew the thermostat housing, take out the old thermostat, and clean the mating surfaces. Install the new thermostat with the spring facing down, reattach the housing, and reconnect the hose and battery before refilling the coolant.

The voltage regulator on a 1989 Chevy Camaro is inside of the alternator. If you are having issues, such as flickering lights, you might have to replace the entire alternator.
Drain the radiator into a container. Remove the upper radiator hose at the engine end. Remove the 2 bolts from the thermostat housing. Remove the housing and thermostat and clean both surfaces. Install the new thermostat and housing and the hoes. refill the radiator.
