Look for a diagram of the belt routing under the hood. If not visible, draw your own. Put a 15 mm wrench on the pulley bel o w the alternator and rotate clockwise. You will change to hold the tensioner against its spring tension. Slip the belt off of the idler pulley. You can then remove and reroute the belt. Reverse to install.

To change the fan belt pulley on a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 318 engine, first disconnect the negative battery cable for safety. Next, remove the serpentine belt by releasing the tension from the serpentine belt tensioner. Once the belt is off, unbolt the fan belt pulley from the water pump or alternator, depending on which pulley you are replacing, and replace it with the new one. Finally, reattach the serpentine belt and reconnect the battery cable.
Just replace them all.

Possibly, but you will run into computer, sensor, and wiring differences. It would be easier to get the proper engine.
