How to take off themastate unit
..
take off the air manifold, and under it is a big black box (thermostat housing), take off thermostat housing gasket (smaller black piece on top of housing and thermostat is inside it.
It's under the throttle body housing. I'm looking for an answer on how to take the housing off to get to the thermostat
To replace the thermostat in a 2002 Toyota Camry the vehicle battery must be disconnected and the engine coolant must be drained. The radiator hose is connected to the thermostat housing and needs to be disconnected. Next, remove all bolts and nuts for the thermostat housing unit. The new housing unit can now be attached along with the parts taken off.
On the top/front of the block, there is a plastic housing that the 2 top hoses connect into. You have to take that plastic housing off and the thermostat is in there.
follow the radiator hose that goes to the motor, the thermostat housing is the thing the hose is hooked to and it is bolted to the motor with three bolt i believe. you take the hose off, the housing off and just take the old thermostat out and put the new one in.
First locate the top radiator hose, that hose should lead you to the thermostat housing. Second you loosen that hose from the thermostat housing. Third you take of the 2 Bolts off from the thermostat housing, they should be a 13mm or 1/2 inch socket or wrench and when it's off you should see the thermostat.
At the end of the top radiator hose after you take two bolts off of the housing that covers the thermostat.
you have to remove the throttle body and use 13mm rench to take the thermostat housing bolts off
Follow the upper raditor hose from the raditor to the motor, the raditor hose is connected to the thermostat housing, take the houseing off, the thermostat is under the housing.
follow the top water hose back to the block and take it off then the housing has to come off and that is your thermostat
It varies from one engine to another but in most cases you drain a few qts of coolant from the radiator, remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing on the engine side then remove the thermostat housing to gain access to the thermostat. Take note of how the thermostat is installed, the spring faces into the engine.
You first have to remove your air filter housing in order to get to your thermostat. Once you have done that you should be able to look down and it should be right beside and below the intake manifold you have two bolts one you can visibly see and the other directly across form but on the other side of the thermostat housing. Once you take of those two bolts the thermostat housing should come off. Then there is your thermostat. you may need to take a small hammer or something to hit with to take out the old thermostat with just in case it is hard to take off by hand and there you go you have cahnged your thermostat.
