check to see if it holds vacuum.
1) Shut vehicle engine off
2) Step on brake pedal (should go down easily)
3) Step on brake pedal a 2nd time and it should be difficult to push, if working properly (holding vacuum).
If pedal is difficult to push down the 1st time, booster is not holding vacuum. Could be the "one-way" valve on the booster is defective, or could be that the booster itself has developed a leak due to rust or corrosion.
To vacuum test a brake booster, first ensure the engine is off and the brake pedal is fully depressed to release any residual pressure. Next, disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster and attach a hand-held vacuum pump to the booster’s vacuum port. Apply vacuum using the pump; the gauge should hold steady pressure if the booster is functioning properly. If the vacuum drops significantly, it indicates a leak or failure in the brake booster.
I would say a power brake booster or a brake booster would be the same.
To replace the brake booster on a 2001 Pontiac Montana, first disconnect the battery and remove the master cylinder from the booster by unbolting it. Then, unbolt the brake booster from the firewall and disconnect the vacuum line. Install the new brake booster by reversing the removal process, ensuring all connections are secure, and finally bleed the brake system to remove any air. Reconnect the battery and test the brakes to ensure proper function.
Begin by removing the brake lines from your 1995 GMC Jimmy brake booster. Remove the brake booster retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new brake booster.
test the booster with engine turned off, pump brake pedal until pedal goes hard then hold foot on brake pedal and start engine. if booster is working, the pedal will go soft as it should for mormal use. if booster is not working ,the pedal will stay hard
hard brake pedal is the most obvious sign only way i know to test a booster, is to turn engine off. use brakes several times till pedal is hard. then with brake applied, start engine. the brake pedal should then soften.if the pedal stays hard the booster is bad

The brake booster is part of the power brake system.
The power brake booster of a vehicle is replaced by removing the fluid reservoir, unbolting the booster from the firewall, and disconnecting it from the brake pedal. A new booster can then be connected and bolted into place.
The 1989 Lincoln Continental brake booster is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The brake booster will be on the drivers side of the firewall.
You can fix the brake booster switch in your 1991 Jaguar by replacing the brake booster switch. In most cases when the brake booster switch does not function properly the only way to fix it is to replace it.
this is most likely caused by a bad brake booster. hook up a vaccum pump to booster and see if it holds vaccum, if it does, its ok, if it doesnt, its bad. booster is located between firewall and brake fluid resevoir, you will see a large diameter vaccum hose connected to it, this is where to test it at.
