You should be able to hear it engage-there is a clutch. If not, check the hot wire when someone turns on with a test light. If it has juice & does not engage, you may have a problem.
You have a system performance test done on your AC system.
The ac compressorThe ac compressor
A malfunctioning AC compressor could be caused by issues such as low refrigerant levels, electrical problems, or a worn-out compressor. To check if the AC compressor fuse is the cause of the issue, you can visually inspect the fuse for any signs of damage or use a multimeter to test for continuity.
To test the AC compressor on a 1993 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 V6 engine, start by checking the refrigerant levels to ensure they are adequate. Next, with the engine running and the AC set to maximum, observe the compressor clutch; it should engage when the AC is activated. If the clutch does not engage, use a multimeter to check for voltage at the clutch connector. If there is voltage and the clutch still does not engage, the compressor may be faulty and require replacement.
With a test light. They lightly pierce the wire & will light up when/if you have current. (Hot wire to compressor for example)
You take a piece of gum that you have chewed since you last changed the ac compressor. Then you take the piece of gum and stick it on the end of a straw and mold it until yu feel that it is secured tightly. then you blow into the other end of the straw and the piece of gum flies off, then change your damned ac compressor.
It is on the top of the ac compressor. It is on the top of the ac compressor.

chevrolet and other GM use the HR100T AC compressor
Turn on ac and watch clutch on front of ac compressor. If clutch doesn't engage then AC relay is bad. Or you can follow the schematic on the side of the relay and use a volt meter to test it.
