Your Ford doesn't actually have a 'reserve Tank'. Rather it has an intuitive way of realizing when there is about a gallon of usable fuel left then turns the low fuel light on. If this is what you are referring to, I would guess 10 to 20 depending on how you drive. Keep in mind, that every time you see that telltale low fuel light on, you have just added another gray hair to your fuel pump. Mounted at the bottom of your tank, the pump is cooled and lubricated by fuel. I.E. each time you run below 1/4 tank you are causing the pump to withstand temperatures that it doesn't like. A 2004 Sportster 1200 typically has a fuel tank capacity of about 3.3 gallons, with approximately 0.5 gallons reserved for the reserve fuel. This means you can expect to travel an additional 15 to 30 miles on reserve, depending on riding conditions and fuel consumption. However, it's always best to refuel as soon as the reserve light comes on to avoid running out of gas.
