The cost to fix a small evap leak typically ranges from $100 to $500, depending on the specific issue and the vehicle's make and model. Simple repairs, such as replacing a faulty gas cap or a damaged hose, can be on the lower end of that range. However, more complex issues may require more extensive diagnostics and repairs, driving up the cost. Always get a quote from a trusted mechanic for a more accurate estimate.
A small EVAP leak can be difficult to find. Many times it is a loose or faulty fuel cap. If the leak can't be found by inspecting the system by eye, a smoke test will usually show something. First the leak must be found before you can put a price on repairs.
If it's a small EVAP leak they can be hard to pin point. A smoke test is usually done to find the source but there's no telling how long it takes and what the cause is and what part(s) are involved until a diagnoses has been done. Large leaks are much easier to find.
The cost to fix an evaporative (evap) control system leak can vary widely based on the vehicle make and model, as well as the specific issue causing the leak. On average, repairs can range from $150 to $600, depending on whether it's a simple hose replacement or a more complex issue like a faulty vapor canister or purge valve. Labor costs may also influence the total price, so it's advisable to get a detailed estimate from a qualified mechanic.
The evap itself is about $100.
Just returned from the Hyundai dealer. For my 2002 Elantra they would $880 plus tax. I'm thinking about it. Will get other bids. E Schirmer Naperille, IL August 2, 2011
It depends on where the leak is and what is causing the leak.

You can't imagine what a broad question you asked. What is the leak and what do you have?
I was told by my Mechanic that it will cost me 92 dollars to run the Evaporation leak test for my car. In brampton, Ontario, Canada.
i think you mean evaporator (a/c ) leak. there is a small radiator looking component in the passenger side dash that can leak freon. its no fun to yank out to replace I am guessing they mean Evaporative Emissions system leak. I would imagine you got this information when you had a check engine light scanned. What was the code? A leak in the Evap system cold be something as easy as a loose gas cap or much more difficult. good call on evap. leak instead of my guess of a/c. yes, loose gas cap or the evap. canister assembly. i have replaced a million of these. but you r right need to first smoke test then read data stream to ck. purge solenoid ect. yes, need to know code or at least description of fault. for the person asking the question.... an evap. leak is a leak in the fuel vapor filter system. no fuel vapor is to be unfiltered so a canister is installed. the system is under pressure ( very slight ) but has sensors to tell you if there is a leak and you r venting fuel vapor to the atmosphere. not a worry item, your car will not break down and will continue to drive the same. your car will not go into closed loop ( all systems clear ) until you fix this problem. so you might see a liitle bit of a drop in fuel economy.....again, have it ck ed
The cost of a power steering leak repair depends on the leak placement and the car. A filler cap replacement might be 5.00, while a leak causing a steering rack replacement could be 750.00 or more.
Pin point your problem. A "gas leak" on a obd2 computer can be hundreds of mechanical references. An ASE certified technition will most likely be your bet to locate your leak, after the leak is located you will know the cost.
