no , the heater core is for your heat , the evaporator core is for your air conditioning ( cooling )
The evaporator is in the A/C heater box under the dash.
Heater core is on the passenger side behind the glove box, this is also the location of the air conditioner evaporator core.. they should be in the same housing.
if the rear ac is working then you probably have a damper door that is inoperative. this is in the heater/evaporator box. so if it isn't working then you will be heating and cooling at the same time out of the heater box.
The entire, and I mean ENTIRE front dash has to come out to remove the heater box which then must be disassembled in order to replace the evaporator or heater core. Not a job for the feint of heart.
the evaporator is located in the hvac box that sits behind the dash, it also holds the heater core, the blend air door, and the mode door....the dash has to be pulled out to get to the box.....not an easy job...
the evaporator inside the heater box behind the dash most common
It's part of the heater core assembly so it's behind your glove box
Behind / below the glove compartment , inside the plastic box with the heater core
To replace the evaporator core in a Ford Ranger, first, disconnect the battery and remove the dashboard and any components obstructing access to the heater box. Drain the coolant and remove the hoses connected to the evaporator core. Once the heater box is accessible, unscrew and remove the old evaporator core, then install the new one in the reverse order, ensuring all connections are secure and there are no leaks before reassembling the dashboard. Finally, refill the coolant and reconnect the battery.
You have to remove the entire dashboard to expose the heater box. Then you can disassemble the heater box. This is a HUGE job. I've done it several times and it's every bit of 2 days for a do it yourselfer.
The AC evaporator is located inside the AC/Heater box. The entire dash has to come out to replace it. This job makes even the most experienced mechanics cringe. Get it done by a good shop.
